NIA recognizes 2004 Theodore H. Brodie Distinguished Safety Award Winners

The National Insulation Association (NIA) announced the winners of its 2004 Theodore H. Brodie Distinguished Safety Award at their 50th Annual Convention held March 21-24 in Las Vegas, NV. The safety award is the organization's top industry honor for outstanding safety performance. NIA represents the contractors, distributors, laminators, fabricators and manufacturers that provide thermal insulation, insulation accessories and components to the commercial, mechanical and industrial markets throughout the U.S.

PCG was named the winner for the large-company category. Other winners included Luse-Stevenson Co. and Brock Specialty Services Ltd. who ties for the medium-company category award; and Thermal Solutions-Ohio Inc. for the small-company category.

NIA past-president Dave Andrew presented each awardee with a plaque during the awards ceremony held during NIA’s 50th Annual Convention. Winners also receive public acknowledgement in NIA’s trade publication Insulation Outlook, NIA’s member newsletter NIA News and on the NIA website, www.insulation.org. Runner-up companies received a certificate of merit.

“The quality of a company’s safety program is a good indicator of the quality of the company, period,” says Andrew. “The winners of the NIA safety award are some of the best companies in the country for guaranteeing a safe environment for their employees.”

The safety award was created to honor top companies who have, by taking proactive steps to implement safe working practices, established outstanding safety records. Judges focused on the company’s safety program and the results it has achieved as measured by its injury rate and experience modification rate data.

“Safety is recognized by the NIA as a vital and integral part of the insulation business,” says Michele M. Jones, NIA executive vice president. “We believe that every contractor, distributor and fabricator should have an effective safety program.”

The safety award is named in honor of Theodore H. Brodie, former NIA president and long-time active member, who has helped to create a greater awareness of the need for safe working conditions. Brodie is the president and CEO of New England Insulation Co., Inc., located in Canton, MA.

PAS and Net Compliance Environmental Services(NCES) enter into an SBA Mentor/Protégé Agreement

The intent of the SBA's Mentor/Protégé Agreement is to enhance and strengthen the capabilities of the small business protégé through mentoring activities by improving its opportunities to successfully compete for government contracts, and larger prime contracts through association with a major business partner.

PCG ACHIEVES OUTSTANDING YEAR-END INCIDENT RATE OF LESS THAN 1.0

PCG proudly announces the achievement of their most oustanding safety numbers to date.

PCG's 2004 corporate safety performance has been no less than stellar: Never before in the history of PCG has their fiscal year-end incident rate been below 1.0. PCG has achieved an incident rate of .95, accompanied by a severity rate of 1.06. This means PCG had less than one OSHA-recordable injury for every 200,000 manhours. Additionally, their number of lost-time days now borders on the “less than one” position.

Mick Matthews, senior vice president of PCG, congratulated the PCG Corporate Safety Department for their outstanding accomplishment. “It goes without saying that our 2004 results were generated through the time and effort of many individuals, he said. "I am convinced that our overall approach to the construction business -- one that truly encompasses safety as an integral part of all our operations -- is correct. A portion of the credit goes to each member of the Corporate Safety Department, not to mention the untiring dedication of all our branch and project employees, each and every day. The continued creativity, diligence, enthusiasm, attention to detail and lots of hard work and long hours, have helped PCG achieve this most significant milestone.”
